As we grow closer to the actual event, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the IPL schedule 2021 in the first week of March.

IPL Tournament Format

As per last year, the IPL will be played in a double round-robin format. This means that each team will play against the other twice, once at home and the other match away. In total, 56 matches will be played out of which four teams will advance to the next stage based on the points accumulated.

The first match will take place on the 9th April and will see defending champions, Mumbai Indians play against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Once the league stage matches have concluded, four teams will remain while the rest will be knocked out.

The first and second-placed teams will play the 1st qualifier with the winner going on to the finals of the IPL. The winner of the third and fourth-placed teams will battle against the loser of the 1st qualifier. The winner of this game will meet the winner of the 1st qualifier.
