IPL 2020 Schedule

It is hard to believe that the Indian Premier League (IPL) is now in its thirteenth season. Having thwarted off competition from the now defunct Indian Cricket League (ICL), IPL is a bona fide entertainment juggernaut.

As we grow closer to the actual event, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the IPL schedule 2020 in the fourth week of February.

IPL Tournament Format

As per last year, the IPL will be played in a double round robin format. This means that each team will play against the other twice, once at home and the other match away. In total, 56 matches will be played out of which four teams will advance to the next stage based on the points accumulated.

The first match will take place on the 29th March and will see defending champions, Mumbai Indians play against the Chennai Super Kings.
Once the league stage matches have concluded, four teams will remain while the rest will be knocked out.

The first and second-placed teams will play the 1st qualifier with the winner going on to the finals of the IPL. The winner of the third and fourth placed teams will battle against the loser of the 1st qualifier. The winner of this game will meet the winner of the 1st qualifier.

The final of the tournament will be held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 24 May 2020

IPL 2020 Schedule | Venues

The IPL Schedule will take place over nine venues with a total of 60 games being played. Seven of those venues will serve as home grounds of the seven different franchises. The Rajasthan Royals is the only team to have two home venues, , the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur and the Barsapara (Nehru Stadium) in Guwahati.

Other venues include the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai where the IPL final will be played, Eden Gardens in Kolkata , Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, and MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
