Match 34: MI vs KKR
In Match 34 of the IPL 2021 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Venkatesh Iyer (53) and Rahul Tripathi (73 not out) hit crucial half-centuries to lead Kolkata Knight Riders to a comfortable seven-wicket win against Mumbai Indians in a 156 chase.
With 29 balls in hand, KKR beat the target of 156. With this victory, Kolkata has won two of their first two games in the UAE phase of the competition, and they are presently at the fourth position in the standings with eight points from nine games.
After Jasprit Bumrah knocked Shubman Gill, Iyer blasted his maiden IPL fifty off only 25 balls as he and Rahul Tripathi brought up KKR’s 100 in just 10 overs. Bumrah dismissed Iyer for 53, while Tripathi scored fifty off 29 balls at the other end. Gill and Venkatesh Iyer, the KKR openers, had gotten off to a blazing start. Earlier, KKR limited Mumbai Indians to 155/6 as Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya failed to provide the big finish.
Quinton de Kock made it to fifty but was quickly taken by Prasidh Krishna, who had easily substituted Suryakaumar Yadav. Sunil Narine ended Rohit Sharma’s opening stand by knocking him for 33 runs. After Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and chose to bowl first, Rohit and Quinton de Kock opened the MI innings with a bang, reaching fifty inside the powerplay.
